Starting tomorrow on MTV and running through Sunday is Mancation Weekend. The channel is featuring masculine marathons of your favorite shows for dudes, including "Guy Code" and the premiere of "Jackass 3-D" on Saturday, 10/9c. Just plant your ass on the couch and your man brain will be happy. You can even win some free schwag on Twitter by using #mancation and correctly guessing the number of times someone gets kicked in the nuts on MTV over the weekend. Awesome promotion.
In the spirit of Mancation Weekend, we decided reminiscence about our favorite classic MTV shows for dudes. Ever since 1981, the network has entertained us with more shows than we can count. (We might've discovered our bodies to "Singled Out" hosts Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra. #dontjudgeus)
It's impossible to narrow 'em down to 10 favorites, but these ones have a special place in our hearts...just like Jenny and Carmen had a special place in our pants.
1. Beavis and Butt-head
"Beavis and Butt-head" (much like "The Simpsons") revolutionized animation as a medium for adults...stunted adults, perhaps, but still. When Mike Judge came back for new episodes in 2011, they were just as brilliant as the originals.
2. Jackass
All guys love to mess with their friends. Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O and the rest of the gang have actually made a career out of it. Even when we want to puke from their dirty tricks, we're laughing too hard to care.
3. Nitro Circus
Most of us have limited funds for vehicles and limited tolerance for bodily risk. Travis Pastrana plays with all the motorized toys he wants, in all the madman ways.
4. The State
Featuring "Reno 911!" stars Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant and Kerri Kenney-Silver (also: Michael Ian Black), this legendary sketch comedy show -- which ran from 1993 to 1995 -- had endless imagination and absolutely no limits.
5. Bully Beatdown
We've all had to deal with bullies at some point. Thanks to MMA fighter Jason "Mayhem" Miller, bullying victims finally had a guardian angel. (A guardian angel who could punch really, really hard.)
6. From G's to Gents
Kinda like finishing school for gangstas, "From G's to Gents" helped wayward youths become upstanding fellows. Even if you were just a guy, not a G, it could still teach you how to be a better man.
7. Pranked
There's no better satisfaction (maybe except from sex) than a well-executed prank. Amir Blumenfeld and Streeter Seidell of CollegeHumor showcased the best ones ever put on video...not starring the "Jackass" crew, anyway.
8. The CollegeHumor Show
Speaking of CollegeHumor, they had an entire series for all of six episodes. Brevity is the soul of wit?
9. Ridiculousness
Truth's stranger than fiction. Good thing Rob Dyrdek is there to chronicle that strangeness whenever it's caught on video.
10. Celebrity Deathmatch
Guys love to argue about "What If..." battles: Bruce Lee vs. Mohammed Ali, Batman vs. Wolverine, etc. Thanks to "Celebrity Deathmatch," those hypothetical showdowns -- such as Beavis vs. Butt-head, above -- played out to surreal heights in glorious clay-mation.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
As we already noted, the above list is far from comprehensive. We can't forget "The Jon Stewart Show," "MTV Sports," "Fraternity Life," "The Ben Stiller Show," "Doggy Fizzle Televizzle" and dozens of other classics. Whatever the future of television holds, rest assured that MTV has plenty more to give mankind.
